Tour Arlington National Cemetery with the Institute
Join us for a bus tour of Arlington National Cemetery on Saturday March 23, 2024 with an emphasis on the people of Antietam.
The bus will leave at 9:00 am and return at 4:00 pm to the parking lot of the Hagerstown Prime Outlets in Hagerstown, MD.
This special members-only event will be led by Roderick Gainer, Curator at Arlington National Cemetery since 2013.
The tour will focus on those soldiers that served at Antietam and include stops at the “Field of the Dead,” the Custis Mansion, the Civil War Unknown Tomb, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as numerous famous graves of participants on the Maryland Campaign of 1862. Later stops will include Ezra Carmen, John Gibbon, Samuel Sturgis, Abner Doubleday, James Ricketts, George Crook, etc.

Presenter
Roderick Gainer is the Command Curator of Arlington Cemetery. He has worked in the Army Museum Enterprise for over 20 years. He regularly leads tours of Arlington, and conducts staff rides for various government agencies and civilian groups. Mr. Gainer is the author of “Ultimate Sacrifice at the Battle of Kernstown (White Mane 2007) and numerous articles. He attended Arizona State University (BA History), and received his master’s degree in history from George Mason University.

There will be only 50 seats available for this day trip to Arlington National Cemetery, book your spot online.
The $50 per-person event fee covers the bus trip, the guided tour, and a box lunch.
Lunch will include a 6″sub sandwich (ham, turkey, cold cut, chicken salad, or veggie) (on white sub roll with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, and swiss cheese), homemade salad, fresh-baked cookie/brownie, and bottled water.
Meet your bus by 9:00 am on Saturday March 23, 2024 in the parking lot of the Hagerstown Prime Outlets, 1000 Premium Outlets Blvd, Hagerstown, MD, 21740 (near the Longhorn Steakhouse).
